Barbecue Charcoal is a solid carbonization residue of wood or other vegetable matter that does not spit/spark abnormally when burned and that has not been artificially chemically treated or artificially prepared so that its main component carbon and ash content is minimal.

Barbecue Charcoal Briquettes are produced by compressing charcoal particles together with a suitable binder.

Impregnated barbecue charcoal and impregnated barbecue charcoal briquettes must meet the requirements of barbecue charcoal and barbecue charcoal briquettes along with the requirements of EN 1860-3.

Modifying ISO 579, a sample is heated in air at 105 °C - 110 °C and held at this temperature until constant mass is achieved. The percent moisture content is calculated from the loss in mass of the sample. charcoal and charcoal briquettes are not subject to significant oxidation under the specified conditions.

For impregnated charcoal and impregnated charcoal briquettes, the impregnated material must be removed before testing.
