This part of the EN 1865 standard specifies the minimum requirements for the design and suitability of heavy-duty hospitals used in ambulances for the treatment and transportation of patients. The aim is to ensure the safety of the patient and to minimize the physical effort of the personnel operating these transport vehicles.
Stretcher systems and patient transport equipment within the scope of this standard EN 1865-3 are for use in road ambulances. In this standard, reference is made to EN 1789:2007+A2:2014, which specifies the design requirements for road ambulances and test methods for the control requirements of such transport equipment.
Lifting and handling devices should not pose a high level of risk when operated and maintained according to the manufacturer's instructions. Any identified risk will be reduced to an acceptable level. Dimensions should be measured from the outermost edges.
Carry handles on devices for transporting patients should allow fixation in extended positions. All equipment for transporting patients must be free from sharp edges. The minimum radius should be 0,5 mm. All patient restraint systems must have a quick release system.
The recliner should be made of a strong material that is bacteria-resistant, fungus-resistant, stain-resistant, odor-resistant, easy to clean and disinfect, washable, waterproof and petroleum oil resistant.
The main stretcher shall consist of a stretcher part that can be used alone or in combination with an integral or detachable undercarriage. The entire weight of the patient and the carried stretcher portion will be designed to be lifted/carried by personnel only for a minimum period of time.
