EN 1928 Flexible Sheets for Waterproofing - Bitumen, Plastic and Rubber Sheets for Roof Waterproofing - Determination of Waterproofing

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN 1928 standard. The EN 1928 standard specifies equipment and procedures for determining the waterproofness of factory-made products, i.e. resistance to pond water or hydraulic pressure absorbed by a limited portion of the surface. It can be applied to bitumen, thermoplastic and elastomeric sheets.

This standard can also be used in other waterproofing areas.

This standard has been prepared by the CEN/TC 254 Technical Committee to determine the waterproofing of boards for waterproofing. This standard has been prepared for roof applications and can also be used in other related areas.

This standard is designed for the characterization of flexible sheets for waterproofing as manufactured or supplied prior to use. This standard relates exclusively to products and not to waterproofing membrane systems consisting of such products and installed in works.

Due to the nature of the bitumen, plastic or rubber sheets involved, the test procedure given in this standard consists of two methods:

Method A: Test procedure for sheets intended for use in low pressure application, eg roofing, underlayment, vapor control layer. The sample is subjected to a pressure of up to 24 kPa for 60 hours.

Method B: Test procedure for sheets intended for use in high pressure application, e.g. custom roofs, tunneling and tanking. Submission of a test sample to a specified water pressure for 24 hours against a disc containing four slots of specified forms and dimensions. The test sample is observed to determine whether it is waterproof.

The samples are to be evenly distributed across the width of the slab, with the outer ones 100 mm from the edges. The longitudinal direction of the test specimens should be marked parallel to the production direction. The number of test samples should be as specified in the relevant product standard, but at least three.
