EN 29073-2 Test Methods for Nonwovens - Part 2: Determination of Thickness

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN 29073-1 standard. This part of the EN 29073 standard specifies methods for determining the thickness of normal and bulk non-woven textiles under a given condition.

EN 29073-2 Test Methods for Nonwovens - Part 2: Determination of Thickness

Bulky Non-Woven: Defined as a non-woven textile that can be compressed by 0,1% or more when the applied pressure changes from 0,5 kPa to 20 kPa.

Thickness: The distance between the face and the back of the non-woven fabric is measured as the distance between the reference plate on which the non-woven fabric rests and a parallel presser foot that applies pressure to the non-woven fabric.

The principle of this test method is to measure the thickness of the nonwoven fabric as the distance between the reference plate on which the nonwoven fabric is located and a parallel presser foot that applies a certain pressure to the area under test.

A vertically movable top plate with an area of approximately 2.500 mm² or two circular horizontal plates with presser feet attached to a stand and a reference plate with a plane surface of at least 50 mm in diameter are used.

A measuring device with a graduated scale of 0,01 mm is used to measure the distance between the reference plate and the presser foot.
