This European standard describes methods for the determination of water-soluble halogens (excluding fluorides) in additives. The total water-soluble halogen content is expressed as the chloride content.
The purpose of the test is to determine the content of chloride ions in a mixture by precipitation of chloride ions with a solution of silver nitrate.
The volume of sample required for this test was calculated for a mixture with a chloride content of less than 0,1% by mass. If the chlorine content is known or assumed to be higher, the mixture should be diluted to an exact ratio before testing.
