EN 480-6 Additives for Concrete, Mortar and Mortar - Test Methods - Part 6: Infrared Analysis

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of EN 480-6 testing. This standard describes a method for identifying an additive by infrared analysis.

EN 480-6 Additives for Concrete, Mortar and Mortar - Test Methods - Part 6: Infrared Analysis

IR analysis is performed on dry material obtained from an additive dried at (105 ± 3)°C, unless a different temperature is specified by the manufacturer. The residue from the determination of the conventional dry material content according to EN 480-8 can be used.

The sample under test should be considered as suitable or unsuitable for the reference sample, depending on whether the spectra have similar characteristic peaks with the relative absorptions of interest.

This procedure corresponds to the preparation of samples generally adopted hitherto. The development of new tools may affect the way the sample is prepared. Evaluation of the fitness property requires good experience in infrared spectrophotometry.

Any water in the dry extract will affect the resulting IR spectrum. If this occurs, the drying time should be extended to remove all water but not cause deterioration or evaporation of other ingredients.
