EN 480-8 Additives for Concrete, Mortar and Mortar - Test Methods - Part 8: Determination of Conventional Dry Material Content

The procedure in EN 480-8 has been found to be unreliable for some types of additives such as lignosulfonates and sugars. The procedure has now been revised to include drying to constant weight using duplicate samples with a requirement for maximum difference between results.

Since some of the materials used in the additives are runny, the option to use a stoppered bottle to be inserted during weighing is included.

Some liquid additives form a crust that prevents complete drying during drying. In these cases, EN 934-1 allows an alternative test procedure to be used.

In the case of a liquid additive this method will be used to characterize the dry material content. For a powder additive this method will be used to determine the actual mass of the dried powder.
