EN 1337-1 Structural Supports - Part 1: Standard Test for General Design Rules

This European Standard does not cover:

• Bearings that transmit moments as a primary function;
• Lift resistant bearings;

While not intended to regulate temporary supports, in this case this standard can be used as a guideline (temporary supports are supports used during the construction or repair and maintenance of structures).

Bearings are elements that allow rotation between two elements of a structure and transmit the loads defined in the relevant requirements and prevent displacements (fixed supports), allowing displacement in only one direction (guided supports) or in all directions of a plane (free supports).

Bearings and bearings shall be so designed that it is possible to inspect, maintain and, if necessary, replace bearings or bearing parts, to ensure that they function throughout the intended life of the structure.

Presetting should be avoided as much as possible. If necessary, the necessary presetting must be done at the factory. If re-adjustment in the field cannot be avoided, it should only be done by or under the supervision of the manufacturer of the bearing.
