EN 50085-1 Cable Tray Systems for Electrical Installations Part 1: General Requirements

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN 50085-1 standard. This part of the EN 50085 standard specifies the requirements and tests for cable tray systems (CTS) and cable tray systems (CDS) intended for the shelter and, where necessary, electrically protective separation of electrical and/or electrical and/or ambient insulated conductors, cables and possibly other electrical equipment. specifies. The maximum voltage of these installations is 1000 V AC and 1500 V DC.

EN 50085-1 Cable Tray Systems for Electrical Installations Part 1: General Requirements

This standard does not apply to trunking systems, cable tray systems, cable ladder systems, power line systems or equipment covered by other standards. Part 1 is not intended for use on its own. Part 1 will be used in conjunction with the corresponding Part 2 for special requirements.

CTS/CDS shall be designed and constructed to provide reliable mechanical protection to insulated conductors, cables and other electrical equipment likely to be contained where required. If necessary, the system will also provide adequate electrical protection. In addition, system components shall withstand stresses that may occur under the rated minimum temperature for storage and transportation, installation and application, and the maximum temperature for application and during recommended installation practice and use.

Equipment associated with or included in a system component but not a system component shall comply with and need only that equipment's relevant standard, if any. However, it may be necessary to include such equipment in a test arrangement in order to test its interface with the CTS/CDS. Compliance is checked by performing all the specified tests.

General Conditions for EN 50085-1 Tests

The tests performed according to this standard are type tests. Examples of system components are hereinafter referred to as examples. Unless otherwise specified, tests are performed with the CTS/CDS assembled and installed as in normal use, according to the manufacturer's instructions, taking into account the declared classification and functions of the system.

Tests on non-metallic system components or composite system components should begin no earlier than 168 hours after manufacture. During this time the samples can be aged as needed. Unless otherwise stated, tests are performed at an ambient temperature of 20°C ± 5°C.

Samples of duct lengths or duct lengths for a given test are taken from such different system components. Unless otherwise stated, all tests are performed on fresh samples. When toxic or hazardous processes are used, precautions must be taken to protect test personnel. Unless otherwise stated, three samples are tested and the requirements are met if all tests are met.

If only one of the samples does not meet a test due to an assembly or manufacturing defect, that test and any previous test that may have affected the test results should be repeated, as well as subsequent tests in the following tests. Required sequencing should be done on another complete sample set, all of which will meet the requirements.

When submitting a sample set, the applicant may also submit an additional sample set, which may be required in the event a sample fails. The test station will then test the additional set of samples without further request and reject it only if another failure occurs. Failure of a sample will result in rejection if the additional sample set is not submitted at the same time.
