EN 50525-1 Electrical Cables - Low Voltage Power Cables with Nominal Voltages up to 450-750 V - General Requirements

This European Standard covers general requirements for rigid and flexible power cables with rated voltages up to (inclusive) U0 /U450/750 V ac used in power installations and domestic and industrial appliances and equipment.

EN 50525-1 Electrical Cables - Low Voltage Power Cables with Nominal Voltages up to 450-750 V - General Requirements

The term "cord" is used for some types of flexible cable. Rated voltages are given with reference to alternating current (ac) systems. The use of cables in direct current (dc) systems is permitted.

National regulations may set additional performance requirements for cables not provided in special requirements. For example, additional fire performance requirements may apply for buildings with a high level of public access.

Specific cable types are specified in EN 50525-2 (series) and EN 50525-3 (series). The individual parts in these two series are collectively referred to hereinafter as "specific features".

For each cable type, only dimensions (conductor class, cross-sectional area), number of cores, other structural features and rated voltages given in the specific specification are valid.
