This European Standard specifies the requirements, test methods and performance criteria for input/output devices connected to the transmission path of a fire detection and fire alarm system used to receive or transmit electrical signals from or to the transmission path necessary for operation.
An input/output device may be a physically separate device or its function may be integrated into another device, in which case this European Standard can be used to evaluate that functionality. Control and indicating equipment and auxiliary control and indicating equipment (eg repeater panels and firefighting panels) are not covered by this European Standard.
If any markings on the device use symbols or abbreviations that are not commonly used, these should be explained in the data supplied with the device. The mark will be visible during installation and accessible during maintenance. Marks should not be placed on screws or other easily removable parts.
I/O devices shall be provided with sufficient technical, installation and maintenance data to ensure their correct installation and operation. This data should contain the necessary parameters to define the input or output functions (eg output voltage and current ratings, alarm and fault trip levels, logic levels).
