EN 60332-3-24 Electrical and Fiber Optic Cables Under Fire Conditions - Part 3-24: Vertical Flame Propagation of Vertically Mounted Bundled Wires or Cables

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN 60332-3-24 standard. This part of standard 60332 covers category C for test methods for the evaluation of vertical flame propagation of vertically mounted bundled wires or cables, electrical or optical, under defined conditions.

EN 60332-3-24 Electrical and Fiber Optic Cables Under Fire Conditions - Part 3-24: Vertical Flame Propagation of Vertically Mounted Bundled Wires or Cables

This standard deals with cables installed on test ladders to obtain a nominal total volume of non-metallic material with a 1,5 l/m test sample. Flame application time is 20 minutes. The mounting method uses the front side of the standard ladder. The category is intended for general use where evaluation of low volumes of non-metallic materials is required.

EN 60332-3-24 is designed for type approval testing. Requirements for cable selection for testing are specified. Flame spread is measured as the extent of damage to the cable sample. This procedure can be used to demonstrate the cable's ability to limit flame spread.

IEC 60332-3-24 is part of a series of publications dealing with tests on electrical and fiber optic cables under fire conditions. The IEC 60332-1 and IEC 60332-2 series specify test methods for flame propagation properties for a single vertically insulated wire or cable. Because a cable or wire meets the requirements of the IEC 60332-1 and IEC 60332-2 series, it cannot be assumed that a vertical set of similar cables or wires will behave similarly. This is because the flame propagating along a vertical harness depends on a number of features.

The categories may not be related to the different safety levels in actual cable installations. The actual installed configuration of the cables can be an important determinant of the flame spread level that occurs in a real fire.
