EN 60512-14-4 Connectors, Tests and Measurements for Electronic Equipment, Part 14-4: Tightness Tests

It details a standard test method for evaluating the sealing effectiveness of a connector against water ingress under certain pressure and time conditions.

The sample shall consist of a matched pair of connectors with wired terminations as specified in the detail specification. All wires and cables must be either sealed or extended outside the test chamber.

A container shall be prepared containing a solution of 5% ± 1% by weight of non-iodized (commercial) salt in distilled or deionized water. No contaminants likely to affect or tend to affect the wetting properties of the solution shall be present.

If the detail specification requires, the specified lubricant or sealant shall be applied as given in the detail specification.

The test should be done at room temperature; The temperature of the sample and the temperature of the solution should not differ by more than 5°C. The sample should be completely immersed in the solution such that the highest point of the sample is at least 25 mm below the solution level.
