EN 62192 Live Working, Insulation Ropes

This International standard defines the required electrical properties of insulating ropes that meet other specifications regarding mechanical strength, physical and construction properties for use in volatile operation at power frequency system voltages up to (inclusive) 800 kV rms.

Ropes meeting this standard may bridge two or more live phase conductors or between a phase conductor and earth as required during live operation. The effects of the use of insulating ropes on the dielectric strength of the installation should be evaluated. Depending on the configuration of an installation, the use of insulating ropes will have different effects on the dielectric strength.

Cotton, sisal and hemp threads are not suitable for this application, as are other threads that exhibit electrical conductivity. Examples of ropes that can meet the requirements of this standard are formed from fibers that have been treated with a wax or other chemical that causes the surface of the rope to become hydrophobic.
