Applies to bunk beds with the upper surface of the upper plinth at a height of 600 mm or more from the ground, and high beds with the upper surface of the plinth 600 mm or more from the ground.

Loads and forces in strength and durability tests are valid for mattresses with an inner length of 140 cm and a maximum plinth width of 120 cm.

The size requirements are specifically geared towards minimizing the risk of accidents for children.

Strength and durability requirements are intended to represent use by one person per bed.

Safety requirements for other items in a bunk/high bed, for example a desk or storage furniture, are not included in this standard.

This European standard does not apply to bunk beds and high beds used for special purposes including but not limited to prison, military and fire brigades.
