This European standard is applicable to factory-made plaster/plaster mortars based on inorganic binders for external (giving) and internal (plastering) use in walls, ceilings, columns and partitions.
It includes definitions and final performance requirements. This European standard provides for the evaluation and verification of the constancy of performance (AVCP) of the product against this European standard. The marking requirement for products covered by this European standard is included.
It does not cover mortars where the calcium sulfate binder is the main active binder. Calcium sulfate binder can be used together with air lime as an additional binder. If air lime is the main active binder component, plaster/plaster mortar is covered by this European standard. If the calcium sulfate binder is the main active binder component, the mortar is within the scope of EN 13279.
Mortars, thin-layer organic plasters and prefabricated units (e.g. gypsum boards) for structural repair and surface treatment of building elements such as special fire resistant and acoustic mortars, leveling or smoothing materials, paints, coatings are not covered in this European standard.
This European standard covers plaster/plaster mortars, with the exception of on-site plaster/plaster mortars. However, this european standard, or part of it, may be used in conjunction with codes of practice and national specifications covering mortar made on site.
