EN ISO 10077-1 Thermal Performance of Windows, Doors and Shutters - Calculation of Thermal Transmittance

This part of the EN ISO 10077 standard, developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), specifies methods for calculating the thermal transmittance of windows and pedestrian doors consisting of glazed or opaque panels, with and without louvers, placed in a frame.

EN ISO 10077-1 Thermal Performance of Windows, Doors and Shutters - Calculation of Thermal Transmittance

This document allows:

  • Different types of glass (glass or plastic; single or multiple glass; low-emission coated or uncoated and with cavities filled with air or other gases),
  • Opaque panels inside the window or door,
  • Various types of frames (wood, plastic, metallic with or without a thermal barrier, metallic with point metallic connections, or any combination of materials) and
  • Additional thermal resistance provided by different types of closed louvers or external louvers, where appropriate, depending on their air permeability.

The thermal transmittance of skylights and other protruding windows can be calculated according to this document, provided that the thermal transmittance of the frame sections is determined by measurement or numerical calculation. Default values for glass, frame and shutters are given in the appendices. Thermal bridge effects in the gutter or joint between the window or door frame and the rest of the building envelope are excluded from the calculation.

This standard is part of a series aimed at international harmonization of the methodology for evaluating the energy performance of buildings. Throughout this series, it is referred to as a set of EPB standards. All EPB standards follow certain rules to ensure overall consistency, openness and transparency.

All EPB standards provide a normative template with informative default options, allowing some flexibility in methods, required input data, and references to other EPB standards. The main target groups of this standard are architects, engineers and regulators.

Use by or for regulators: Where ISO 52000-1 is used in the context of national or regional legal requirements, mandatory options at the national or regional level may be given for such specific applications. These options may be submitted as a national annex or as a separate (eg legal) document (national data). So in this case:

  • Editors will choose options;
  • The individual user will apply the document to evaluate the energy performance of a building, thus using the choices made by the regulators.

Among the services provided by our organization within the framework of material testing services, there are also EN ISO 10077-2 standard tests. Do not hesitate to contact EUROLAB laboratory for your test and certification requests.
