ISO 105-X12 specifies a method for determining the resistance of the color of any textile, including textile floor coverings and other pile fabrics, to rubbing and staining other materials.
The method is applicable to textiles made from any fiber in the form of yarn or fabric, including dyed or printed textile floor coverings. Two tests can be done, one with a dry scouring pad and the other with a wet scouring pad.
The samples of the textile are rubbed with dry scouring cloth and wet rubbing cloth. The machine provides two combinations of test conditions via two alternatively sized friction fingers: one for pile fabrics, the other for solid-coloured or large-printed fabrics.
If the textile to be tested is fabric or textile floor covering, two pieces of not less than 50mm × 140mm are required for dry scrubbing and two pieces for wet scrubbing.
Additional specifications may be used when higher precision is required. The long direction of one sample of each pair will be parallel to the warp threads (or manufacturing direction), and the other will be parallel to the weft (or filler threads or filler threads). at right angles to the production direction). An alternative method of cutting samples is to cut the long dimensions diagonally for the warp and weft. If the pile pattern of a carpet sample is multicolored, cut the pattern so that the pile pattern points in the long direction.
