This international standard specifies the basic requirements for uncut finished eyeglass lenses. This international standard does not apply to protective eyeglass lenses.
This international standard takes precedence over the relevant requirements of other standards if there are differences.
In addition to the requirements set out in this international standard, uncut finished lenses will conform to the relevant parts of ISO 8980.
Lenses should be designed in such a way that the overall risk associated with their use under the conditions intended by the manufacturer is reduced to a level consistent and generally compatible with the materials used, relative to the risk if the lenses are not used.
Lenses should not be made of materials known to be physiologically incompatible or known to produce allergic or toxic reactions in a significant proportion of wearers when used as intended by the manufacturer.
