EN ISO 11890-2 Paints and Varnishes - Determination of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) or Semi-Volatile Organic Compounds (SVOC) - Part 2: Gas Chromatographic Method

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN ISO 11890-2 standard. This part of the International Standard EN ISO 11890 applies to the determination of VOC and SVOC with an expected VOC and/or SVOC content greater than 0,01% by mass and up to 100% by mass.

EN ISO 11890-2 Paints and Varnishes - Determination of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) or Semi-Volatile Organic Compounds (SVOC) - Part 2: Gas Chromatographic Method

The method given in ISO 11890-1 is used when the VOC is more than 15% by mass. This document (method ISO 11890-2) is valid when the system includes VOC and SVOC because the VOC result of ISO 11890-1 can be affected by SVOC. For VOC content less than 0,1%, the headspace method described in ISO 17895 is used as an alternative. ISO 11890-1 and ISO 17895 cannot be used to determine SVOC content.

Some components of coating materials and their raw materials may degrade during analysis and cause artificial VOC and/or SVOC signals. While determining VOC and/or SVOC for coating materials and their raw materials, these signals are artificial elements of the method and are not taken into account.

This method assumes that the volatile matter is either water or organic. However, other volatile inorganic compounds may be present and need to be quantified by another suitable method and allowed in the calculations. The method described in this document is not applicable to the determination of water content.

If the coating material or raw materials contain organic acids or bases and their corresponding salts, the amount quantified by this method may not be accurate due to a change in acid or base balance.

This document is one of a series of standards for sampling and testing coating materials and their raw materials. Specifies a method for determining the volatile organic compounds (VOC) content and semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOC) content of coating materials and their raw materials.

Use of this document may involve hazardous materials, processes and equipment. This document does not purport to address all security problems associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the users of this document to take appropriate measures to ensure the safety and health of personnel prior to its application and to determine the applicability of other restrictions for this purpose.
