EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN ISO 13937-4 standard. This part of EN ISO 13937 describes a method of double tearing, known as the tongue test, which uses a test sample with cuts to form a tongue.
The measured tear force is the force required to propagate previously initiated double tears when the force is applied parallel to the cuts and the fabric tears in the direction of the applied force.
The test is mainly applicable to woven textile fabrics. It can be applied to fabrics produced by other techniques, e.g. to some non-woven fabrics.
EN ISO 13937 has been prepared as part of several test methods for the determination of certain mechanical properties of textiles, mainly using tensile testing machines; tensile properties, seam tensile properties, tear properties, seam slippage. Testing requirements for these standards agree where appropriate. Results obtained with one method should not be compared with results obtained with other methods.
