EN ISO 14130 is a test standard designed to measure the visible interlayer shear strength of thermoset or thermoplastic matrix fiber reinforced plastic composites by the short beam method. The apparent interlayer shear stress is the stress acting on the neutral plane of the sample.

The apparent interlayer shear strength is the value of the apparent interlayer shear stress at breakage or at the maximum force reached. The interlayer shear force is loaded into the rectangular specimen as a simple beam fixture in bending. Calculations available include maximum load, apparent interlayer shear stress and shear strength.

This standard specifies a procedure for determining the apparent interlayer shear strength of fiber-reinforced plastic composites by the short-beam method. The method is suitable for use with fiber-reinforced plastic composites with thermoset or thermoplastic matrix and allows to achieve shear fracture between layers.

The method is not suitable for determining design parameters, but can be used for screening materials or as a quality control test.
