This European standard specifies methods for determining the dimensions and straightness or arc of single-span, single, combined or prefabricated components of composite lintels conforming to EN 845-2.
Deformed edges of the lintel, for example due to burrs, must be removed before any measurement is taken to create clean edges that do not deform.
Measurements shall be those representing the maximum and minimum overall length, overall section and bow. Measure the overall width and height at the two ends and in the middle of the opening. At each position, record the maximum overall size between opposite surfaces to the nearest 1 mm. In any case, the arithmetic mean of the three dimensions, rounded to the nearest 1 mm, will be the lintel width and lintel height.
For convex surfaces, bring the flat edge in contact with the crown of the convex surface and record the difference between the perpendicular distances between the edge and the lintel surface with an accuracy of 0,5 mm. Take the average value of the two measurements.
Record the larger of the two upper and lower two measurements as the bow in the vertical direction according to the position where the lintel will be used in practice. Record the larger of the two side dimensions as the bow in the horizontal direction according to the position where the lintel will be used in practice. Divide these values by the lintel length and express as a percentage.
