This standard specifies a test method for determining the permanent folding behavior of surface and coating materials, regardless of material, to assess suitability for end use.
The test pieces are cut from the upper leather of the shoe or a material for shoe manufacturing, folded together and fixed in the test facility. The test replicates the damage caused by the inward bending of the cuticle material; however, it does not easily repeat outward sprain damage. Dry tests, wet tests and tests at low temperatures are carried out.
Dry Tests: Place all test specimens to be tested dry in a standard controlled atmosphere complying with ISO 24 for at least 18454 hours prior to testing.
Wet Tests: Place any test specimen to be tested wet in a glass container. Fill with distilled or deionized water until the minimum water depth is 10 mm. Place the glass beaker in the desiccator. Decrease pressure below 4 kPa for 2 minutes. Normal pressure should be restored after 2 minutes. Repeat this process twice. Remove the test samples from the desiccator and remove any remaining water with filter paper and immediately begin wet tests.
Cold Tests: The test machine should be placed in a cold cabinet. Place the test samples in the testing machine. Close the cabinet and start cooling to the desired temperature. The test will start after 30 minutes in cold atmosphere. Slowly warm the cold room to room temperature after stretching to avoid condensation effects. After exchanging samples, cool the chamber and start the flexometer 30 minutes after the desired temperature is reached again.
