EN ISO 2060 Textiles - Yarns from Packages - Determination of Linear Density (Mass Per Unit Length) by Hank Method

This standard specifies methods for determining the linear density of packaged yarns. It includes seven optional procedures based on different conditioning and preparation methods.

Since different procedures do not give the same values, it is essential that the procedure used is accepted by all parties interested in the test results.

Although this method is only designed to determine the mass of a unit length of yarn, it is often preferred to combine this determination with strength tests or commercial mass tests. In such a case, if skein lengths other than those specified are used, the length used and any special corrections based on it are subject to agreement between the concerned.

This method applies to:

• Single threads (twisted, monofilament or multifilament);
• Folded threads;
• Cable threads.

It does not apply to yarns stretching more than 0,5% when the tension in centinewtons per unit linear density of the yarn in tex increases from 1,0 to 0,5, except by agreement. Such yarns can be tested under special conditions if agreed by all parties interested in the test results.

The method is not applicable to yarns with a linear density greater than 2000 tex. For such yarns, other hank lengths and special winding conditions are acceptable with the agreement of the parties concerned.
