EN ISO 2061 Textiles - Determination of Twist in Yarns - Direct Count Method

EN ISO 2061 specifies a method for determining the direction of twist in yarns, the amount of twist, in turns per unit length and the change in length during untwisting by direct counting.

This International standard applies to:

  • Single threads (spun and filament);
  • Ply yarns;
  • Cable threads.

Separate procedures are given for each thread type. The method is primarily intended for yarns in packages, but with special precautions, procedures can be used for yarns from fabrics. Not suitable for determination of twist in a monofilament.

EN ISO 2061 covers the determination of twist in plied and cabled yarns as follows:

  • In plied yarns: the final twist of the ply yarns and the original twist of the single yarn before folding;
  • In cabled yarns: the final cable twist of the yarn, after folding, but before the final stage of processing, the original twist of the folded yarn, twisting of the single yarn before folding.

EN ISO 2061 is not applicable to yarns stretching more than 0,5% when the tension rises from 1,0 cN to 0,5 cN per unit linear density of yarn, expressed in tex, except by agreement. Such yarns can be tested under specific tension conditions accepted by all parties interested in the test results.

EN ISO 2061 is not applicable to threads that are too large to allow insertion into the clamps of the tester without crushing or distortion severe enough to affect the test results.
