EN ISO 2062 Textiles - Yarns from Packages - Determination of Force at Break and Elongation at Break Using a Constant Elongation Ratio (CRE) Tester

Four methods are given:

• A: Manual; samples are taken directly from conditioned packs;
• B: Auto; samples are taken directly from conditioned packs;
• A: Manual; loosened test skeins are used after conditioning;
• D: Manual; used after the samples have been wetted.

Method C is used in cases of disagreement regarding the elongation at break of the yarn. EN ISO 2062 specifies methods using fixed rate specimen extension (CRE) tensile testers. Testing obsolete constant rate of movement (CRT) and constant load rate (CRL) devices takes into account the fact that these devices are still in use and can be used by agreement.

EN ISO 2062 applies to all yarn types except glass, elastomeric, aramid, high molecular polyethylene (HMPE), ultra high molecular polyethylene (UHMPE), ceramic and carbon yarns and polyolefin tape.

EN ISO 2062 can be applied to yarns removed from packages, but can also be applied to yarns removed from fabrics, subject to agreement between the parties concerned.
