This part of the IEC 60598 standard specifies the general requirements for luminaires with electric light sources for operation from supply voltages up to 1000 V. The requirements and related tests of this standard cover: classification, marking, mechanical structure, electrical structure and photobiological safety.
The IEC 60598-1 standard is included as the main standard of LVD safety tests / LVD testing of luminaires.
Classification of Luminaires
Classification According to Electric Shock Protection Type: Luminaires must have one of Class I, II Class, III Classes according to electric shock protection.
Classification According to the Degree of Protection Against the Ingress of Dust, Solid Objects and Moisture: The luminaires must have a degree of protection (IPXX) in accordance with the EN 60529 standard against harmful water ingress.
Classification by Material of the Supporting Surface for which the Luminaire is Designed: Luminaires should be classified as follows according to whether they are designed to be mounted directly on normally flammable surfaces or whether they are designed to be mounted only on non-combustible surfaces;
Classification According to Conditions of Use: Luminaires for normal use and luminaires for heavy-duty conditions
