EN ISO 2811-1 Paints and Varnishes - Determination of Density - Part 1: Pycnometer Method

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN ISO 2811-1 standard. This part of the EN ISO 2811 standard specifies a method for determining the density of paints, varnishes and related products using a metal or Gay-Lussac pycnometer.

EN ISO 2811-1 Paints and Varnishes - Determination of Density - Part 1: Pycnometer Method

This test method is limited to materials with low or medium viscosity at test temperature. The Hubbard pycnometer can be used for high viscosity materials.

A pycnometer is filled with the tested product. Density is calculated from the mass of the product and the known volume of the pycnometer and pycnometer. The effect of temperature on density is very important for filling properties and varies by product type.

For international reference purposes it is essential to standardize a test temperature and (23 ± 0,5)°C is specified in this part of ISO 2811. However, it may be more appropriate to perform comparative testing at another agreed temperature. heat,
for example (20 ± 0,5) °C should be as specified in the relevant weight and size legislation.

The test specimen and pycnometer should be conditioned to the specified or agreed temperature, ensuring that the temperature change during the test does not exceed 0,5 °C.

Pyknometer

Metal pycnometer, 50 ml or 100 ml, metal pycnometer of circular cross-section and cylindrical form, made of neatly finished corrosion-resistant material, with a snug-fitting lid and a hole in the middle. The inside of the cover is concave
should be. The analytical balance is accurate to 50 mg for pycnometers with a volume less than 1 ml or up to 50 mg for pycnometers of 100 ml to 10 ml.

If working with a temperature-controlled room, place the pycnometer in its dustproof container and the test sample next to the balance in the chamber stored as specified or agreed. If working with a water bath rather than a temperature-controlled room, place the pycnometer in its dustproof container and the test sample in the water bath maintained at the specified or agreed temperature.
