The test method is suitable for all polymer matrix systems reinforced with unidirectional fibers and meeting the requirements including failure mode specified in ISO 527-5.

The method is suitable for composites with thermoplastic or thermoset matrix, including pre-impregnated materials (prepregs). Reinforcements covered include carbon fibers, glass fibers, aramid fibers and other similar fibers.

Reinforcement geometries covered include unidirectional (ie fully aligned) fibers and rovings and unidirectional fabrics and tapes. The method is not suitable for versatile materials that normally consist of several unidirectional layers at different angles.
