The EN ISO 9773 standard, developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), specifies a small-scale laboratory screening procedure for comparing the relative combustion behavior of vertically oriented thin and relatively flexible plastic samples exposed to a low-energy flame ignition source.

These specimens cannot be tested using method B of ISO 1210 as they deform or shrink from ignition from the applied flame source. This test method determines the afterfire and flash times of the samples.

The described classification system is geared towards quality control and preselection of component materials for products. The classification established by this test method is only applicable to the material used for the samples. Test results are affected by material components, eg. pigments, fillers, fire retardant concentrates.
