ETSI EN 300 392 Terrestrial Trunk Radio Voice and Data Air Interface Test Standard

The ETSI EN 300 392 standard defines the Air Interface for the Terrestrial Link radio system supporting Voice and Data traditional access and direct access, and includes the characteristics of the physical layer, data link layer and network layer according to the ISO model.

First, TETRA determines the radio characteristics:

  • defines and specifies modulation,
  • defines and specifies radio transmission and reception,
  • defines and specifies synchronization,
  • defines and specifies channel coding,
  • Defines and specifies control over the radio link.

Second, it establishes services, messages and protocols used for voice and circuit mode data transfer, starting from the upper layers:

  • Identifies and specifies the services provided by the CC subsidiary,
  • Identifies and specifies the services provided by the SS subentity,
  • Identifies and specifies the services provided by the SDS subsidiary,
  • Defines and specifies the protocol used by the Circuit Mode Control Entity (CMCE) to communicate over the air interface to deliver Call Control (CC), Supplementary Service (SS), and Short Circuit Services,
  • Data Service (SDS) subsidiaries,
  • Defines and specifies the services and protocol used for the management of user mobility within and across TETRA networks, namely the Mobility Management (MM) entity and MLE,
  • It defines and specifies the services and protocol used in the data link layer, which is divided into two sub-entities, Logical Link Control (LLC) and Media Access Control (MAC) entities.

Third, it sets up the services, messages and protocols used for packet data transfer:

  • Defines and specifies the services provided by the Subnet-Specific Data Control Protocol (SNDCP) subentity,
  • Defines and specifies the protocol used by the Subnet-Specific Data Control Protocol (SNDCP).
