IEC 60335-2-31 concerns the safety of electric range hoods and other cooking fume extractors, with a rated voltage of not more than 250 V, intended for installation above, next to, behind or below domestic cooking hobs, cookers and similar cooking appliances.
The cooking appliance can be powered by electricity or other fuels such as gas. Appliances that may be a source of danger to the public, such as appliances not intended for normal household use but still intended for use by ordinary people in shops, light industry and on farms, are within the scope of this standard.
This standard deals, as far as possible, with the common hazards presented by appliances, which are faced by all persons in and around the home. However, in general, physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, prevent them from using the device safely without supervision or instruction or children playing with the device.
The main changes in this edition compared to the fourth edition of IEC 60335-2-31 are as follows:
Attention of National Committees amended or revised IEC publication, in which equipment manufacturers and testing organizations will make new products in accordance with the new requirements and equip themselves to carry out new or revised tests. It is the committee's recommendation that the content of this publication be adopted for national implementation no earlier than 12 months or no later than 36 months from the date of publication.
