IEC 60335-2-80 deals with the safety of electric fans for household and similar purposes with a rated voltage of not more than 250 V for single-phase appliances and 480 V for other appliances. Examples of fans covered by this standard are ceiling fans; duct fans; partition fans; pedestal fans and table fans.

This standard also applies to individual controls supplied with fans. Appliances that may be a source of danger to the public, such as appliances not intended for normal household use but still intended for use by ordinary people in shops, light industry and on farms, are within the scope of this standard.

This standard deals, as far as possible, with the common hazards presented by appliances, which are faced by all persons in and around the home. In general, however, it does not take into account persons (including children) with physical, sensory or mental abilities; or lack of experience and knowledge prevent them from using the device safely without supervision or instruction.

It also does not take into account children playing with the device. It was created on the basis of the fifth edition of this standard. This third edition repeals and replaces the second edition, Amendment 2002 and Amendment 1, published in 2. It constitutes a technical revision. The attention of National Committees is drawn to the fact that equipment manufacturers and testing organizations may need a transitional period following the publication of a new, modified or revised IEC publication, during which they will manufacture products that meet new requirements and equip themselves for new processes. or revised tests. It is the committee's recommendation that the content of this standard be adopted for national implementation no earlier than 12 months or no later than 36 months from the date of publication.
