This standard describes a method for determining the pH value of the aqueous extract of textile products. The method here can be applied to textiles in any form of fiber, yarn or fabric. This standard proposes a simple extraction procedure using water to measure the pH of non-aqueous solutions containing water-immiscible solvents.
Liquids are used as solvents to form solutions. The most common solvent is water. Some examples of solvents other than water are alcohol and oil. These are often mixed with water or some other non-aqueous solvents to create mixed solvents suitable for certain applications in chemical research or industrial processes.
During the test, water is added to the extract and thoroughly mixed with the sample. After reaching an equilibrium, the solvent phase is separated and then the pH of the water phase is measured.
The pH value in textile products is made to determine the remaining acid and alkaline contents in the fabrics. A relatively higher requirement for the pH value of fabrics in direct contact with the skin is needed. If this value is controlled between weak acid or neutrality, it will not adversely affect the skin.
The test method described here is for determining the pH value of wet-treated textiles. During the tests, some chemical compounds that affect the pH value are extracted from the textile sample, collected as a water extract, and then measured with a special device.
