This European standard describes the principles, apparatus and procedure for artificial aging using thermal aging in a high temperature ventilated oven.
This European standard is designed for the characterization of bitumen, plastic and rubber sheets manufactured or supplied prior to use. This test method relates only to products or, where appropriate, their components and not to waterproof membrane systems consisting of such products and installed in the workplace.
Samples for evaluation are stored at elevated temperature for up to 24 weeks. Evaluations and exposure time before and after thermal aging are defined in European standards on the definition and properties of bitumen, plastic and rubber sheets.
Sufficient size and number of test pieces shall be taken from the samples in order to carry out the evaluation tests. To avoid edge effects, test specimens for evaluation tests are cut from test pieces only after heat treatment.
