The purpose of this part of IEC 61300 is to test fiber optic interconnect components and closures. The purpose of this test is to define a standardized test method for evaluating the effects of short-term exposure to fluids and lubricants on fiber optic interconnect components and closures.
This test method covers the effects of contaminating fluids on the properties of fiber optic interconnect components and closures. The test is performed by immersing samples in a specified liquid for a specified period of time at a specified temperature. A separate sample will be used with each liquid. Properties are measured before and after exposure to liquid.
An appropriate volume of boro-silicate glass or stainless steel containers should be used for each test liquid. Containers shall be of sufficient size and capacity to allow the sample to be immersed in the selected liquid until it is completely covered, without violating other physical constraints (e.g. minimum cable bend radius).
The preparation of the sample will be in accordance with the relevant specification. If cables are attached, they must be long enough to exit the test environment. Where cables are not plugged in, blind plugs should be installed.
