IEC 62133 is the most important standard for the export of Lithium-Ion batteries, including those used in IT equipment, tools, laboratory, home and medical equipment.

Until April 30, 2011, Secondary (rechargeable) lithium batteries tested to UL 1642 are accepted for CB certification.

From 1 May 2011 the batteries will also be subjected to the "gap" test according to parts of IEC 62133.

From 1 May 2012, cells and batteries must be fully tested according to IEC 62133 for CB certification.

Devices with rechargeable batteries - including IEC 60601-1 certified products - must comply with IEC 62133. Devices with non-rechargeable lithium batteries must comply with IEC 60086-4. Only devices sold in North America can use UL 1642/2054. However, this limits your ability to sell your product internationally.
