IEC 62817 Photovoltaic Systems - Design Competence of Solar Tracking Devices

The standard defines test procedures for both key components and the complete monitoring system.

In some cases, test procedures describe methods for measuring or calculating parameters to be reported in the defined tracer specification sheet. In other cases, the test procedure results in a pass/fail criterion.

The purpose of this design qualification standard is twofold:

First, this standard provides the user of that monitor to measure the parameters reported in the specification sheet with consistent and accepted industry procedures. This gives customers a solid basis for comparing and selecting an audience that fits their specific needs.

This standard provides industry-wide definitions and parameters for solar trackers. Each vendor can design, build, and specify functionality and accuracy with uniform definition. This ensures consistency in determining purchasing requirements, comparing products from different vendors, and verifying the quality of products.

Second, pass/fail tests are designed to distinguish tracer designs that are likely to fail prematurely from designs that are robust and fit for use as specified by the manufacturer.

The mechanical and environmental tests in this standard are designed to measure the tracker's ability to perform under varying operating conditions as well as to survive extreme conditions. Mechanical testing is not intended to confirm structural and foundation designs, because such certification is specific to local jurisdictions, soil types, and other local requirements.

Technical Specifications of Solar Trackers for PV Applications

As part of product marking and documentation, the manufacturer must provide the testing laboratory with a table in the format specified below. This toablo is for standard information purposes only and is not intended to be part of an actual specification template provided to the testing lab.

Some features must be provided by the manufacturer and verified by the test laboratory, while others are the sole responsibility of the test laboratory. However, if a tracker manufacturer chooses to include optional information, it must be reported and measured specifically.
