IEC EN 62115 Safety Standard for Electric Toys

IEC 62115 specifies safety requirements for electrical toys with at least one electrically dependent function. The EN text provides some examples of electrical toys that fall within its scope, such as construction kits, electric toy computers or a dollhouse with a light inside.

IEC EN 62115 is an updated version of a previously existing document, taking into account the latest technological developments. In particular, it has been improved over the previous version as it provides updated requirements for the safety of light-emitting toys. It also provides new requirements for the safety of riding remote control toys.

This standard has significant advantages to offer a wide range of actors such as consumers, market surveillance authorities and manufacturers by providing a high level of product safety in line with existing technology.

Examples of electric toys covered by this standard are:

• structural sets;
• experimental sets;
• Functional electrical toys (electric toy that works and is used in the same way as a product, appliance or installation intended for use by adults and may be a scale model of such product, appliance or installation);
• A dollhouse with electric toy computers and interior lights.

If the packaging is intended to be of play value, it is considered part of the electric toy.
