Time of flight, In Reflective mode, time of flight is the time it takes for an acoustic pulse to travel from a single transducer/receiver to the corresponding interface and return. In transitive transmission mode, the time-of-flight is the time it takes for the acoustic pulse to travel from the sending transducer through the sample to the receiving transducer.
This procedure is general for all acoustic microscopes. Refer to the manufacturer's manual for operational details on this procedure applied to a specific acoustic microscope model.
Subject to limitations imposed by media thickness and acoustic properties, package configuration, and transducer availability, the transducer with the highest available ultrasonic frequency was selected to analyze the interfaces involved.
The selected converter must have a sufficiently low frequency to provide a clear signal from the interface of interest. The transducer must have a sufficiently high frequency to depict the interface of interest.
