This standard specifies a method for determining the resistance of any textile color except loose fibers to weathering determined by exposure to simulated weather conditions in a cabinet equipped with a xenon arc lamp. It can be used to determine whether a textile is sensitive to wet light.
Textile samples are exposed to light and water spray from a xenon arc lamp under certain conditions. At the same time, the eight dyed wool references are exposed to light but protected from water spray by a windowpane. Fastness is evaluated by comparing the change in color of the sample with that of the references.
The spectrum of the xenon arc contains a significant amount of infrared radiation that must be minimized by heat filters. Temperature conditions can then be met. Filters should be cleaned regularly to prevent undesired reduction in light intensity due to dirt.
