This standard specifies a method for determining the effect of water on the adhesion/cohesion properties of sealants with predominantly plastic behavior used in joints in buildings and civil engineering works.
Test specimens are prepared in which the sealant to be tested adheres to two parallel contact surfaces. After immersion of the test specimens in water under defined conditions, the test specimens are stretched to break and the elongation at break is recorded.
For example, the sealant manufacturer's instructions should be followed regarding whether to use a primer and the mixing procedure for multi-component sealants. The hollow volume formed by the substrates will be filled with sealant.
Samples should be placed on the edge of one of the pads. The anti-adhesive substrate should be removed as soon as possible. Samples should be held in this position to allow the sealant to cure or to dry optimally.
