ISO 11078 Aircraft - Anti-Icing Anti-Icing Fluids - ISO Types II, III and IV

Developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the ISO 11078 standard defines requirements for non-Newtonian ISO type II, III and IV fluids used in the removal and prevention of ice, snow or frost on the outer surfaces of ground mainline and regional civil transport aircraft. Products conforming to this International Standard are specific to each manufacturer and may be adversely affected by mixing with other de-icing/anti-icing fluid.

ISO 11078 Aircraft - Anti-Icing Anti-Icing Fluids - ISO Types II, III and IV

This International Standard is applicable to de-icing, anti-icing fluids generally used in aircraft. However, applicability may have limitations for certain aircraft types. It is the airplane operator's responsibility to refer to the airplane operations manual, aircraft maintenance manual, and airplane manufacturer's service letters to identify limitations/restrictions on the use of de-icing/anti-icing fluids in accordance with this International Convention.

The purpose of this International Standard is to standardize the critical properties of non-Newtonian fluids, designated ISO types II, III and IV, used for ground de-icing and anti-icing of aircraft to ensure the safety of civil transport aircraft worldwide.

This International Standard provides de facto recognition of the published AMS 1428 standard in order to reduce duplication of reference documents as much as possible and to benefit from easier industry-approved updating that takes into account constantly evolving technology and know-how. Approved by SAE on the basis of a permanent joint Committee with the European Airline Association (EEA) and with the approval of the relevant Civil Aviation Authorities.

The fluid should be designated as an ISO type II, III or IV fluid as appropriate for international operations. The fluid will comply with the requirements of Aerospace Materials Specification AMS 1428.

AMS 1428 is prepared by the SAE Committee G-20 with the participation of experts from the European Airways Association (AEA) and ISO TC9/SC1/WG12 and is continuously monitored to ensure it reflects the latest technology and know-how, and in Canada, Europe, Japan
and approved by the US Civil Aviation Authorities.

Among the services provided by our organization within the framework of material testing services, there are also ISO 11078 standard tests.
