This standard specifies requirements for sterile packaged or bulk non-sterile rubber gloves intended for use in medical examinations and diagnostic or therapeutic procedures to protect the patient and user from cross-contamination. It also includes rubber gloves intended for use in handling contaminated medical supplies and gloves with smooth or textured surfaces on all or part of the glove.
This standard is designed as a reference for the performance and safety of rubber examination gloves. It does not cover the safe and appropriate use of examination gloves and procedures for use, packaging and storage following sterilization procedures.
Tensile properties should be measured according to ISO 2 by taking three type 37 dumbbell test pieces from each glove and using the median value as the test result. Test pieces should be taken from the palm or back of the gloves.
