Biocompatible polymers and plastics covered by special provisions for medical applications are outside the scope of this standard.
The terms "biopolymers" and "bioplastics" are commonly used to describe polymers and plastics that are bio-based, biodegradable, or both. While these definitions are quite common and used by industry, they are considered to be open to misunderstanding and therefore not suitable for standardization purposes.
