Aging refers to all "slow and irreversible" changes in a material's properties resulting from its own instability or from the effects of the environment. This change can affect the chemical makeup of the polymers or additives, the composition of the material, or the physical properties.
Accelerated aging methods are used since it is practically impossible to obtain experimental results under normal conditions of use.
These methods include simulations that reproduce normal use conditions as closely as possible, but where parameters are adjusted so that aging occurs faster.
