This standard specifies a method for determining the behavior of a leather's surface when rubbing with a wool felt. It can be applied to any type of leather.
One side of the leather sample is rubbed with reference wool felt pieces under a certain pressure for a certain number of back and forth movements. The degree of color staining of the wool felt and the change in the color of the leather are evaluated with the gray scale. Any other visible change or damage to the skin surface is also reported. General color fastness testing principles will conform to those described in ISO 105-A01, taking into account that the substrate is leather.
Wet the felt by placing the felt pieces in demineralized water. Heat the water to boiling and simmer gently until the felt pieces sink. Then drain the hot water and replace it with cold demineralized water. Let the wetted felt pieces cool to room temperature. Alternatively, place the containing container in the vacuum container, generate a vacuum of approximately 5 kPa and hold for 2 minutes. Restore normal pressure. Perform this procedure two more times. Just before use, remove each piece of felt from the water and squeeze or wipe to reduce the water intake to approximately 1 g. Wet felt parts shall not be allowed to remain in water for more than 24 hours.
Wet the skin by immersing the samples in demineralized water so that there is no contact between samples. Place the container in the vacuum cup, create a vacuum of about 5 kPa and hold for 2 minutes. Restore normal pressure. Perform this procedure two more times. Just before use, remove the samples from the water and remove excess water from their surfaces with blotting paper. Samples will not be allowed to soak in water for more than 1 hour.
