This International Standard covers the types and classes of sealants used in building construction according to their application and performance characteristics. Requirements for different classes and corresponding testing methods are also given.
When determining the classification of a sealant according to the requirements of this International Standard, the same conditioning procedure (curing) shall be used in all relevant test methods detailed in the test.
For each test method, three test samples for each substrate will be tested. The same sealant will be used in all tests. The same substrates will be used in all tests.
Once prepared, the sealing test samples will be examined for defects. Test samples deemed unsuitable for testing will be rejected. After testing, seal test specimens will be examined for evidence of adhesion or loss of adhesion. Wherever observed, the depth of adhesion loss or loss of adhesion shall be measured using a suitable measuring device capable of reading. The highest value observed at both depths will be recorded and used to determine success or failure.
Each test will be performed in triplicate. In any test method, if two or more test samples fail, the sealant will be reported as having failed the test. If only one of the test samples fails, the entire test will be repeated. If one of three repeated test samples fails, the sealant has failed the test.
