ISO 11890-1 Paints and Varnishes - Determination of Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) Content - Part 1: Method of Difference

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN ISO 11890-1 standard. This part of the International Standard EN ISO 11890 is one of a series of standards for sampling and testing paints, varnishes and related products. Specifies a method for determining the volatile organic compound (VOC) content of paints, varnishes and their raw materials.

ISO 11890-1 Paints and Varnishes - Determination of Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) Content - Part 1: Method of Difference

This part can be used where the expected VOC content is more than 15% by mass. ISO 0,1-15 should be used when the expected VOC content is greater than 11890% by mass and less than 2% by mass.

This method assumes that the volatile matter is either water or organic. However, other volatile inorganic compounds may be present and need to be quantified by another suitable method and allowed in the calculations.

After sample preparation, the non-volatile matter content is determined according to ISO 3251 and the water content is determined using a titration technique using Karl Fischer reagent according to ISO 760. Where possible, the contents of exempt compounds are then determined using the method specified in ISO 11890-2. The VOC content of the sample is then calculated.

Determine the water content in percent by mass by the method given in ISO 760, selecting reagents so that there is no interference from the compounds present in the sample. If compounds are unknown, determine qualitatively, for example, by the method given in ISO 11890-2.

This document is one of a series of standards for sampling and testing coating materials and their raw materials. Specifies a method for determining the volatile organic compounds (VOC) content and semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOC) content of coating materials and their raw materials.

Use of this document may involve hazardous materials, processes and equipment. This document does not purport to address all security problems associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the users of this document to take appropriate measures to ensure the safety and health of personnel prior to its application and to determine the applicability of other restrictions for this purpose.

Among the services provided by our organization within the framework of material testing services, there are also EN ISO 11890-1 standard tests. Do not hesitate to contact our laboratory EUROLAB for your testing and certification requests.
